Behind the Wheel – Lesson Learned about Expectations from your 50+ years old pizza delivery driver

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you…Numbers 6:24-25
On my first run, the person charged with a credit card but no tip, so I rang the doorbell and waited. Then I knocked on the door and waited. I was hoping that when she signed the receipt that she may include a little something. She never came to the door. At the end of the day, I wasted time and money just standing there in hopeful anticipation of a tip that never came.
One of the biggest life challenges is to not take anything personally. As we all know, this is much easier said than done.
My next run was a faraway delivery. I had trouble finding the place. I called the family to clarify directions. Upon finding the unit, I came across an extended family having a big dinner gathering behind their trailer. I asked them where they wanted me to put the pizza. After my lesson from the first run, I did not even think about asking them to sign the receipt. I realized that that the pizza itself was probably a big treat. As I was putting down the pizza, this sweet little boy gave me his big smile while jumping up and down full of excitement for the delivery pizza. This time I did not drive away disappointed. Instead, I thanked the Lord for the child’s smile.
God’s blesses us in so many ways, we just need to be still, notice, and thank the Lord!
