Behind the Wheel – Lesson Learned about Grace from your 50+ years old pizza delivery driver

by Denice Choka

Denice ChokaIt was a rough night. My first two runs had no tips. Both women smiled and waved as I was driving away. I must admit, my self-talk was not positive. I think I was even feeling a tad bitter. You see, I am working this second job five evenings a week to pay for my food, as my day job income is going to pay for my daughter’s college. My ex-husband and I had promised to our daughter that we would pay for college so that she could start her professional life debt-free. Then the divorce happened and the financial plan went awry.

I said, dear Lord, please give me a grateful heart, one of compassion and understanding.

On my third run, there was no tip included on the credit card receipt, and it was a big order. I said to myself, bummer, not again. After I delivered the order to their porch, I ran back to my car so that I may return to the shop to service the next customer. Our goal is to get the pizzas delivered safely, fast, and hot. Right before I got to my car, a young man came out the door with a big smile and said, ‘ma’am, wait, this if for you, and may God bless you.’

Amazingly, the Lord spoke directly to me. Reminding me to give others grace, confirming not to be troubled, as he will care for you, and to always ask for his assistance. The smile and peace that washed over me as God answered my prayers through this young man, magical.
