Behind the Wheel – Lesson Learned about Kindness from your 50+ years old pizza delivery driver
by Denice Choka
It was my last delivery of the night, and honestly, I was bit bummed that a tip was not included on the credit card receipt. I was going to an apartment complex with much overrun foliage and in need of repair. After almost accidentally leaving the pizza for a nice older woman, she redirected me to the proper unit. I rechecked my thoughts and said to myself, ok, this pizza order was probably a real treat, and understandably, there was probably nothing available for the tip. I turned my mantra around and said to myself, I am happy to serve this family.
As I was placing the pizza on a no-contact pad, I noticed this lovely little garden with this adorably crafted hand-made fence. When I see beauty, I feel compelled to share with those that which I see. Therefore, I proceeded to share my sentiments with this stylish young woman. She beamed with pride as she shared that she had worked so diligently on her garden. She also shared that her son called it their ‘gingerbread fence’. It was so sweet to hear the love in her voice.
After wishing her a goodnight as I was hustling back into my car, this lovely woman smoking a cigarette said, ‘Wait, I did not give you a tip’. I said, ‘oh you are so kind, thank you!’. What a beautiful exchange of kindness.
Thank you Lord for continuing to teach us to be kind to others and to love your neighbor as yourself.
